This video is nothing but Canon fanboyism on the highest level. There is so much wrong I don't know where to start. It's really painful to watch thinking that some poor young folks believe that stupid bullshit and spent more than 2000 USD through his affiliate links where he clearly does not get paid like he described.

I'd love to know if it's technically possible for Canon to add 120fps to the 1080 in firmware. If they did this I'd buy the R. Also I wish there was a simple way to switch from photo to video with your previous settings saved like Nikon do.

I've bought eos r and compared directly to my old 6d and in AFc burst my 6d was much better. I thought the image quality will be better but it wasn't that much of a difference. And as a photographer must say the raw files were almost twice as big as from 6d. Didn't like it, sold it. Bought new lens.

When I used c100 and 5d mark 4, 5d can not beat c100 at all. dslr and super 35mm. I'm confuse S1H can makes cinematic image? sorry for not about eos r.

«Why I stuck with this camera over all of the other cameras…. …This whole time….» 0:43
It has been only NINE MONTHS TOPS!

«I have, to this day, never ever gotten paid, at all, zero dollars, from Canon….» 1:02
Sounds like he is making it clear that he never got paid, AT ALL. That sounds like a denial of ever having received valuable considerations. Clearly, he has. He is either ignorant of what constitutes valuable consideration, or is deliberately deceiving his audience.

«Not sponsored by Canon in any way….» 1:22
Getting gear for free, getting a MUA for free, getting catering for free, getting use of a studio for free, getting a bottle of Gatorade for free… it is all sponsorship. Many charities get sponsored by being given a product to give away as a door prize. Even if you do not keep the product, you wee still sponsored, as the product was use to draw an audience.

    «In 2017 I made a video about the most underrated camera of 2017 …the Canon 6D mk II….» 2:11
The other camera which he admits he got for free, (although he pretended to not quite remember for sure).

I do not think he understands what Log is, (be it C-Log, S-Log, or otherwise), he does not really understand bit-rate, (although he did not do too a bad job of explaining it), and he certainly does not understand resolution, as their is no point in filming in FHD, editing in FHD, then uploading in 4k. Up-scaling does not produce more resolution nor detail. Putting 5 gallons of water in a ten gallon tank, filled with five gallons of rocks, does not mean you can support the same quantity of fish as a true ten gallon tank (of water) can.

That is why most studios film in 6k-8k, edit in 6k-8k, then downscale the release in 4k, (or film/edit is 4k, then downscale the release in FHD). They get all the detail (not data) preserved. One can have more data and less detail, or more detail, and less data.

He does not seem to understand why certain cameras have a crop in video, but most reviewers who mention video crop also do not understand. It is Mpx! FHD is 2Mpx, 4k is 8Mpx. if your camera (at 16:9) is not 8, or 36 Mpx, (about 11 or 44 Mpx at 3:2), then it cannot do full frame video without down-sampling, thus losing detail and colour accuracy. The Canon EOS R is a 30Mpx camera. Ergo, it cannot do full frame video, and must either crop, or down-sample.

Speed-boosters cannot get rid of the crop. Speed-boosters do not change camera resolution.

In addition, most of the reasons are either subjective, for video, or both. If the EOS R was being marketed as a cine camera, that would be okay, but it is being marketed as a DSC, which was not covered much.

Matti, you are correct the EOS R is the most underrated camera of 2019 IF YOU have been given not just the camera body but also the top end glass. if you are honest that could add up to $10k very quickly. I have been a Canon shooter for last 28 years, i love Canon but i bought a Sony A7 iii , because i had to add the important thing called "cost" i needed bang for my buck, i felt i got that with the Sony. I have only had A7iii for a week but i feel i have the best spec camera at a fair price

For example the xt10 and xt20 were amazing cameras for those who couldn't afford say the xt2 or xt1. At $899 the xt30 brings a lot to the table.

Why don't you use canon's already excellent cropped lenses for it the 10-22 10-18 stm (small Light) then the 17-55 2.8 IS With the ND adaptor it should be a video killer. Also if you wanna rack focus than the 18-35 1.8 is a great option the AF may be off for it though tests i did seemed to work. So personally I don't think the 4K is so crippled…. you know if super 35 Is good enough for most Oscar Nominated films. I am sure people can do fine with this. combined with the atomos 5 this is a powerful tool right under peoples noses. excited for the pro body thats coming . This all said I am happy with my 6d MK2… for now.

But when i try to do 1080p 25p out it wouldn’t let me it only outputs 1080 50p. So therefore the EOS R cannot output 1080 at 25fps to the Atomos is that correct? Thank you so much in advance. I have been trying to make it output 25p for hours and still couldn’t do it 🙏🏻

Unfortunately, the story doesn't end there. This 10-bit color is only for 4K external recording with the gigantic 1.8x crop as you said nicely. The EOS-R cannot shoot 10-bit 1080p, neither internally nor externally. If you want uncropped video on the EOS R you have to use 1080p; but, it's only possible on 8-bit, internally with 4.2.0 externally with 4.2.2 color sub-sampling. Only the $7500 C200 and the $10000 C300mII can shoot (full-sensor) 10-bit 1080p from the arsenal of Canon cameras.

When you shoot C-Log, you can only use manual exposure mode on the EOS R, not even auto ISO with EC dialing is available. Typically you set the shutter to 180 degree, and adjust the ND filter on the lens/or in the drop-in adapter, aperture with the control ring on the adapter, or ISO with the touch bar. For an experienced videographer this is not necessarily a big deal, but keep all these in mind, if this is OK to your workflow.

If you can live with the 1.8x 4K crop, then the EOS R is potentially a "professional mirrorless" (as marketed by Canon), since it is capable of outputting 10-bit 4K from the 20.6 mm wide central area of its 36mm sensor. Since the external recorder has no recording length limit, the EOS R + C-Log with Atomos can do something only the $7500 – $10000 C200, C300mII can do. The EOS R has more advanced image recording specs than the $3500 C100mII. The Canon 5DmIV, 1DXmII cannot output 4K, neither anything 10-bit. The mighty 1DXmII cannot even shoot C-Log. In this perspective, and if we ignore the competition (who cares what other manufacturers make) the EOS R is absolutely worth its price; but, if and only if you can or willing to exploit and use/need these videography features. If you don't buy an Atomos, the 10-bit 4K recording possibility of the EOS R is just a number on a piece of paper.

I found autofocus to be better on my Sony A6400. I am adapting EF lenses on the Canon, though, so I don’t know if that affects it, but the autofocus on the Sony is smoother and never hunts. The Canon will hunt occasionally and isn’t as fast and as smooth. I’m also using third party Sigmas on the Sony, so the native Sony lenses would probably perform even better.
