How to get “Mirror Finish Paint Work” Spray Paint Tutorial

How to get “Mirror Finish Paint Work” Spray Paint Tutorial

in this video I’ll show you how to do what we call a flow coat which is basically rubbing the panel down and re clearing it to make it very shiny and it will look very nice and flat you won’t have much orange peel left after this is done so the prep works already been done to prepare it I’ve basically buzzed it down with a diner braid sander or an orbital sander 600 grit and then gone around the edges with some grey scotch brite on the pad and then put it in the booth wiped it all down with a degreasing solvent or wax and grease remover then as you saw I wiped it down with a yellow tack rag which should remove any further little bits of dust and now I started applying the clear so with the first coat you don’t need to put it on too wet let’s just so that it’s closed up so that you can’t see through to the panel anymore so that you’ve got a full close coat of clear over the whole panel in between coats you may want to wait for five minutes to allow to tuck off depending on the weather and the hardener used but for a panel in this slides you’d probably want to use a medium hardener because it can start to dry on you as you’re painting if you use a fast hardener so here’s our second coat you’ll notice that I go a lot slower I’m actually going to use a lot more material and I’ll probably put the gun a little bit closer to the panel – and you really want to get it on nice and wet on this cut have the fluid round right out so it’s about to fall out pressure up at about two bar or 30 psi and you can see that the from where I start to where I finish halfway through it’s a nice even stroke so I’m not sometimes you see apprentices do it and I’ll get to the middle and they’re nearly on a 45 degree angle and it’s just going to make that it’s patchy and it’s not even so you can notice when by the time I get to the middle it’s still one even line across the panel for this job I’ve probably used about 1 liter of clear just on this one panel because we’re trying to achieve the highest amount of gloss that we can and make it look basically like a mirror so bad that we sanded it down and then we cleared it that will allow us to get rid of any of the orange peel and it will basically make it look like a mirror so you’ve got about three coats of clear over the top of your base coat after the job’s done we’ll take it out the back and give it a D nib what we call it D nib see if you get any little bits of dust to do land in the job you can take it into the detailing Bay D never and polish it up keep an eye out I’ll be uploading some videos on how to do that in the near future as you can see the gloss levels are great there’s no orange peel in it the customer should be wrapped when he picks his car up thanks for watching subscribe to my channel if you like it go and check me out on Facebook and keep an eye out for the next videos you

I appreciate your insights on spray painting, but surely you couldn't go that slow or heavy on a vertical panel, like a car door?

I once told about this to my friend's father who is a respray professional like you. he laughed at it when I said a really flat finish can be achieved by sanding between the coats of clear. I felt like learning a hard lesson in car spraying that day. but a lot of industry does it, woodworkers especially. I guess European respray techniques are more orange-peely as you said?

U are good as hell man that body work on that hood is 100% perfect and as mentioned earlier black is the hardest paint to spray because any little waves or imperfections will show immediately with a mirror finish like that i been painting cars for 3 years and I'm pretty good too i also paint custom designer furniture

I have a question, i recently repainted a red tractor. with OEM IH red spray paint cans. it was glossy when i just restored it, but after a year, to this point, everything is faded a little bit, or just no reflection. I have tried auto motive clear coat paint and it glossed the sheet metal up pretty well ,but now after 3 weeks, there isn't really a mirror finish, "its outside a lot".. my question is, how do i get the full glossy mirror reflection like it was when it was brand new in 1976? or like a brand new car is glossy, and it can sit out side for years, and still have its reflection, my question is, is how do i get it to gloss and reflect like the manufacture for years without fading?

does this give you a better result then just a wet sand and buff out? I would imagine it would cut down on the detail time by bit since there would be much less orange peel to try and cut down if any

But anyway for my curious mind I notices When You paint you spray with an open gun or trigger but when I was shown I was told to feather my trigger. I am not sure if these are right saying or not but was just curious to why and is it right or not.

Is a mirror finish possible with water based paint? When I spray on wood (mostly over sanded paint already sprayed on the wood) when it is wet it will look very textured but it does flatten out as it dries, but not perfect like this. Is it simply not achievable?

real nice paint job. I subscribed because you have a lot of great information about painting. I don't have a professional gun or paint but I use rattle cans on a lot of stuff and following your tips works really well for a rattle can and makes rattle cans give as good of a paint job as it possibly can given its limitations.
