ESteem building became an artwork! [Boss in the Mirror/ENG/2020.02.23]

(ESteem building) (Serious mood in the CEO’s office) (Director Choi, Jimin) There’s Managing Director Seong. (Project Managers Lee Seungjun, Lee Wonhyeong) Shall we start the meeting? Let’s see the plan. We’ll brief you on the artwork project. (Artwork for the ESteem building) I wondered why it didn’t exist in Korea. I wanted to recreate the mood of old town Brooklyn. Awesome. I wanted to spark joy and create a new spectacle that passersby can enjoy right in the moment. I tried to convince the ESteem employees. In the end, I decided to make it happen and simply notified them. (First draft for the front wall) (Subsub, illustrator) It’s so pretty. (First draft for left wall) (Lee Deokhyeong, graphic designer) (First draft for back wall) (Kim Sedong, illustrator) (First draft for parking tower) (Cha Incheol, art director) (Boss Kim’s revolutionary project for 2020) I see glimpses of it. It’s colorful compared to the other buildings. The drafts were all revised. (Strange) Until now, I’ve been told that… – It was one artwork. / – She was mistaken. – Suddenly, I see 3 more. / – Right, 4 in total. (Three sides, plus parking tower) (Last week’s meeting with first drafts) (Managing Director Seong wasn’t there) The thing is… We can’t cover only one side. We need to cover all four sides. (Budget is maxed out) Did you hear about the budget? – The budget? / – I haven’t heard yet. The budget started out as $5,000, right? It’s impossible with only $5,000. Right. $5,000 would only cover decoration costs for a studio apartment. It might be possible for a small company, but that building is over 1983m². A single side would cost more than $5,000. Right. Even just one side. The budget started out as $5,000, right? Yes, that sounds right. I’m amazed even CEO Kim grows weary around her. – Now it’s 10 times as much. / – What? It’s 10 times as much. ($50,000) – And… / – It was supposed to cost $80,000. We found ways to cut the cost. We hired only 4 cranes instead of more. We minimized the workers too. Passersby will be surprised to see it. It’ll become a photo zone. An artwork inspiring hope. That’s what I want. In that case… I’ll do it for free. Donating his talent? Gosh. – You cut the design cost. / – Yes. Think about it. It’ll create synergy. I understand the intention. If I had known ahead of time, I would’ve assigned an appropriate budget. But now, it’ll create problems for our Business Department’s budget. Right. There are other business projects too. (How can I convince her?) I feel really sorry about that. – What a surprise. / – I know it’s a problem. He said, “What a surprise.” – Works Team? / – Yes. What is that? We’ll try to reach our sales goal. We’ll make an effort. – An effort? An effort? / – Yes… An effort? An effort? We’ll give our best effort. I feel really sorry about that. – She feels sorry. / – I feel really sorry. We’ve never seen her like that. What happened to you, CEO Kim? – You’re the hope of all bosses. / – Right. She was so confident last week. If I go against her in front of others, that puts her in a tough spot. Others might think she has no power. I was worried about that. In that situation, it was best to apologize. To imitate your previous comments, Managing Director Seong should chew you out… – Saying, “What is that?” / – Right. – “10 times as much? 10 times?” / – Right. – She should say that. / – Saying, “Are you insane?” “Have you lost your mind?” “What? 10 times as much?” The scale grew so suddenly. I feel really sorry about that. – “Sorry? Sorry?” / – But… This will lead to so many commissions. – Her eyes grew softer. / – That’s just a projection. – Right. / – We don’t have clear results yet. (Getting a higher budget is tough) You can’t succeed if you’re afraid of failure. Then you can’t do anything. We must strike while the iron is hot. We should make hay while the sun shines. These old sayings speak the truth. – Why are you facing away? / – At Director Choi. – Did I do that? / – Yes. You’re not looking at Managing Director Seong. (Eyes closed, escaping her gaze) We need these business projects. I understand that. But I wish it had been planned ahead. (Expression changed by that comment) As for planning, I spoke of this so many times since last year. But you kept saying, “There’s no budget.” She’s striking back. If so, you should’ve saved $5,000 monthly and started afterward. That abrupt project harms other departments. That’s a good idea. I could do that in reverse. I’ll spend the money first and pay back $5,000 each month. Later? Later? After starting it unplanned? (So that’s how I was) (Anger rising) It was abrupt. I’m sorry about that. – But we should do… / – Still looking away. Everything we can to raise the artists’ value. – And… / – Is there a prompter there? She is staring straight ahead. (Eyes looking forward) – Staring ahead… / – A prompter? That’s so funny. She feels guilty, that’s why. I thought she was a news anchor. (Like a news anchor…) If we create situations that can raise the value of these artists, we’ll recover those costs without a problem. If that’s not the case… I’ll deduct it from my travel budget. My business travel budget. – She should give in. / – What about New York? I’ll pay for it personally. Paying for the New York trip personally? (What should I do…) – It’s just a suggestion. / – Don’t worry. – It’ll go well. / – No, she means it. She believes in the project. – If the results are even greater… / – Sure, sure. It actually didn’t cost as much. So cheers! – Cheers? / – Yes, cheers! Cheers! Oh, dear. (Saturday, a few days later) (6 a.m., moon still shining) They must be starting now. (Crane in front of the ESteem building?) (Not just one or two) You had 4 cranes? (And then) The 4 artists. (4 artists approaching) (Lee Deokhyeong, graphic designer) I’m a graphic designer. I also create paintings as a freelancer. An incredible artist. (Artist specializing in logo design) (Kim Sedong, illustrator) I go by the nickname Sambypen. (Artwork for “D” building) (Collaboration with “N” brand) I hold a solo exhibition every year. (Cha Incheol, art director) I often collaborate with brands. I create merchandise. I also worked on album covers. (Subsub, illustrator) – I illustrated textbooks. / – A great artist. I worked with several fashion and beauty brands. (Collaboration with fashion and beauty brands) – I created emoji for Kakaotalk. / – I used those. (Why are they here so early?) Today… We’re on a mission. Each artwork must be finished well. We were also asked to finish before dark. We woke up between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. just to come here. – To lower the cost? / – Yes. – We have to finish in a day. / – Without lighting. The sunlight won’t last long. – So you started at 6 a.m.? / – Yes. – Good morning. / – Hello. Hello. – For today… / – Are you all set? Did you tell them? About the order? We’re all set. This corner here… – The crane… / – I have to start first, right? Yes, you have to start first. Then Incheol can start around 9 a.m. Subsub’s artwork will be done last. That’s the order. We’re aiming to finish at 4 p.m. I hope we can finish before 4 p.m. – That’s tight. / – By 4 p.m. – Before it grows dark. / – Right. – Let’s start. / – So little time for a large building. Indeed. An amazing project. (A meaningful project) (Luxury brands aiming for art museums) (Luxury brands become art) (Kering S.A. that owns Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent) – That looks awesome. / – So awesome. (Companies contributing to society through art) Contributing to society through art. It’ll look awesome, right? It’ll look so cool. What if all the companies start asking us to do artwork for them too? – That’ll be good. / – It’ll be challenging. – We have to make money. / – We must. Yes, but it’ll be a challenge. (Four final drafts) I’ve never seen this process before. (Adhesive sheets ready to be attached) (Special sheets cost several thousand dollars) (Last meeting to confirm work process) They’re getting started. This is nerve-racking. (7:30 a.m., work begins) They’re starting. – I’m nervous. / – Me too. They’re going up. It must be so exciting. Calm down. I already feel anxious. (It has to turn out well) (Bothered) – She dreamed of it for 2 years. / – It’ll be great. – It’ll look good. / – It must be so exciting. Is he your punching bag or what? – Poor Director Choi. / – Indeed. – He might get ill. / – Always getting hit. Can’t you go inside? For 2 hours or so? No way. I must see this touching scene. It’s on the wall over here. It’s going on easily. Cut to adjust for different depths. – All adjusted. / – Yes. It’s a bit wrinkled over there. How did she see it from there? You have great eyesight. Not really, but I could still see it. – You could? / – Yes. It must’ve been 7m or 8m above you. Can they fix it? – What if they refuse to continue? / – Sir? Please watch out for wrinkles. – Don’t worry. / – It’s slightly wrinkled. Thank you. (High cost giving her hawk eyes) He is fixing it. (Perfect) – Looks neat. / – It’s perfect. Thank you! (Relieved) (She’s incredible) In a way, it was better to start with her. For her to watch and point things out… Right, right. Instead of coming near the end and making us fix different things. That’s tough. Moving will make me feel warmer. It’s freezing. (Minguk, Jimin, Sedong in the back) Why do this now instead of some time warmer? She just started it… So suddenly. Planned in a week at the height of winter. Starting so early at dawn… Indeed, it’s still so cold. Couldn’t you do it some time warmer? Projects that cost money should be done early in the year. We have to recover costs by December. (Figurehead boss enlightened) CEO Song is learning again. Once you spend that money, you start with a negative balance sheet. – That’s how it’s managed. / – Spend earlier. Spend in the first half-year. When she starts projects, do you always hurry like this? Whatever she says gets done right away. When we moved our offices the last time… – She said, “Let’s move in 2 days.” / – Right. – In 2 days? / – All the employees hurried. – Packing up. / – In 2 days? So many abrupt, unplanned projects. Is that good? It’s tough for employees. Clearly, they don’t like it. On the good side, things get cleaned up. All going well? Yes, we got started. They’re talking behind her back, right? She’s already nagging over there. Please keep her away from here. So that’s what they say among themselves. – “Please keep her away.” / – Nagging away. It’s such a turn-off. – It’s such a turn-off. / – Oh, my. I haven’t heard that for so long. “A turn-off.” – It’s been ages. / – That punk! What a thing to say. – Like school girls in the ’80s. / – A turn-off! She’s such a turn-off! – Similar to “disgusting.” / – Right. (Turn-off, disgusting) – This is hilarious. / – Gosh… I haven’t heard that phrase in a while. It’s such a turn-off. (Such a turn-off) The employees are happy to hear him… – Say that. / – I don’t care anymore. She does as she likes. This is her dollhouse. – “Her dollhouse.” / – A “dollhouse.” Moving here and there. Are you alright? – The trusted Director Choi… / – That punk! She’s calling him “punk.” You can’t call the director a “punk.” (Rethinking old friendship) How can you call him “punk?” What a meany! (Burning inside) – A meany? / – A meany. A “turn-off” and a “meany.” That’s so childish. Moving here and there. – But Director… / – Moving people around. Telling them what to wear. It’s her dollhouse. (Boss Kim’s dollhouse?) (Boss Kim here to check the back) Is there a wall about this size… – For graffiti? / – Do it here. Use the whole wall. (Graffiti over the whole wall?) That’ll totally change the mood. – If it works, it’ll look great. / – Yes. How about that fence? Later on? Can’t we do something on the ground? What? (Decorating the ground too?) We have nearly 80 to 90 employees. – They can leave their initials. / – I see. They can spray-paint initials. – Everyone… / – Artists can leave graffiti. – Each of us… / – Is this Hollywood or what? Yes. – Is this Hollywood or what? / – Yes. – She’ll make it like Hollywood. / – A quip. Can employees leave handprints? – Just a suggestion. / – She won’t let us. Just an idea. You guys don’t understand art. How frustrating. – They’re excited. / – Yes. Really excited. – It’s really huge. / – Yes. (Something missing) Shouldn’t we film this too? With the ESteem film crew? You’re right. Sorry. I created more work. – Call the team. / – Do it. ESteem has a film crew, right? They didn’t show up. (Where is the film crew?) I shouldn’t have said it. It’s their problem for not showing up. Oh, dear. Why did he bring that up? Director Choi created more work. Jeongeun, why isn’t your team here to film the artwork project? You should do it without being told. Send someone who can come quickly. – We should film this. / – Oh, dear. (Film crew called to work on a weekend) I’m just as bad. Just as bad. Nowadays, it’s tough to ask employees to work on weekends. More than tough. But it’s refreshing to hear CEO Kim speak so boldly. – They get time off in return. / – Right. – If they work over the weekend… / – Yes. They get time off during the week. Let’s say there’s a war. How can anyone stay home so selfishly? You must fight for your country. This isn’t a war. They’d go if it’s a war. Business is warfare! – I’m with civil defense. / – Huh? What is that supposed to mean? It’s better that I brought it up so we could call them. Isn’t it better than getting chewed out later? They’d be in more trouble later. – That’s Boss Kim’s way of thinking. / – Yes. I shouldn’t take after her. (Surprisingly similar) The film crew will be here in 30 minutes. – As they should be. / – They’re on their way. They’re coming? Sorry. – What a nice film crew. / – I created more work. No, it’s their problem for not doing it. This is why I have to check on things. If I don’t, things don’t get done. If I wasn’t here, they… – Wouldn’t have filmed this. / – I remembered it. Once the sheets are attached, it’s over. Then it can’t be filmed. CEO Song shouldn’t come here. She’s learning bad things. – Why is it bad? / – She’s learning bad things. Things will get hard for Director Sook. Those things should be filmed. – CEO Song. / – It must be filmed. What would you do in that situation? – Without the film crew. / – No worries. – She’d have the video camera. / – I’d be filming. – In my case. / – She’d have the camera. If I wasn’t here, they… – Wouldn’t have filmed this. / – I remembered it. You’d only say, “Oh, dear. No one is filming.” (He won’t say anything more) The ESteem employees keep telling me to stop nagging and stop checking on things. But I should go back to how things were. – Checking more details. / – Oh, dear. That spells trouble. – They came. / – With disheveled hair. (Film crew arrives for a weekend shoot) (ESteem’s new project for 2020) They rushed out of bed. (It required 19 employees on a weekend) – Great. I’ll get started. / – Yes. (10 a.m., the parking tower by Cha Incheol) Starting 2020 in high spirits… The color has changed already. (Planning to mark the outline) The black starts from here to here. (Checking carefully) – He’s painting. / – Yes, he’s painting. It’s pretty. (High hopes) Such pretty colors. – That’s amazing. / – Amazing. (Sheets attached to back wall) (Adhesive sheets all attached) Throw some $10 bills from up there. Toss them out. (I’ll do a good job) (Starting from a considerable height) – All set. / – All set. (Isn’t he scared?) He’s painting the parts without sheets? – He connected the painting. / – Awesome. – Instead of just adhesive sheets. / – Yes. He’s a graffiti artist. Awesome. He worked fast. (Focused immediately) Oh, my. He is super fast. He’s really fast. Gosh, he’s faster. How does he do that? (Rolling on paint) (Leisurely movements) – It must be tough to paint a large wall. / – Right. (Was it difficult to paint?) I usually design graphics on the computer and work on paintings at home. Creating such a large-scale work made me mesmerized the whole time. It relieved all of my stress. Instead of being stressed out? (Heart) (1 p.m., starting on the front wall) Your house is so white. How can you eat kimchi or instant noodles here? I only eat white kimchi and bone broth noodles. (Illustrator Subsub eats white kimchi and broth) Really? I loved those emoji. (Whimsical and cute) (How will Subsub’s artwork look?) It looks classier without the gloss finish. Right. It’ll look totally adorable. – The white parts are removed, right? / – Yes. They’ll cut them out. (Attached first and cut out with a knife) (Removing the white spaces) What’s wrong? The socks… Hold on… Just a moment, please! He peeled off the sock. – Hold on! / – Just a moment! What’s wrong? (What happened?) Hold on. – Hold on! / – Just a moment! Don’t peel that off. Those are socks. They’re socks. – He almost peeled off the white sock. / – Yes. – That was a close call. / – Yes. – They almost made a floating ghost. / – Yes. Indeed. I have to be on the spot. Always. I have to watch everything. Someone else would’ve stopped them. No. No one realized it. – Sorry. / – What a fright. A chill went down my spine. I didn’t see that. See? I have to be here. – The socks would’ve been gone. / – So funny. Then Subsub would’ve been in tears, complaining and saying, “Peel everything off.” “I’m not doing this.” (Boss Kim watching like a hawk) – She’s straining her neck. / – It hurt the next day. (Cleanly attached) Did you ever create such a large artwork? No, it’s my first time ever. – Since… / – Right? I usually use normal notebook-sized sheets. – What a good experience. / – Indeed. – It’s exciting, right? / – It’s thrilling. It is, right? The building became my canvas. – Indeed. / – It’s my first time. Right. All thanks to you. – He has good social skills. / – He does. How cute. (Front wall’s artwork getting done) – The character looks like Subsub. / – It does. Look. They already did so much. – It’s so cute. / – Sedong is on fire. (4 cranes, 16 workers, 19 ESteem employees) All of the staff, workers, and artists gathered at 6 a.m. for this project. Due to a brief delay, we worked for 12 full hours straight. (ESteem’s artwork project for social contribution) (From design to execution) Awesome. (Artists in charge finish with signatures) – Signatures? / – Yes. – Awesome!/ – Awesome. Finishing with signatures. Look at Sedong’s work. – It’s awesome. / – It’s quite pretty. – I feel satisfied too. / – So cute. – It’s still bittersweet. / – I want to park there. Isn’t it cool? You need them. You need signatures on artwork. (Will it look like Brooklyn now?) (Revealed now) So pretty. – Totally awesome. / – Indeed. An art company needs that look. It’s so awesome. – It’s called “Loview.” / – “Loview.” It looks huge. So pretty. It changed the building. (Amid Seoul’s ordinary cityscape) Wow, look at that. – So pretty. / – It’s a landmark. Simply awesome. I almost teared up. It was touching. It’s exactly what I wanted. The bleak working space turned into a space for enjoyment. – The artists and models… / – It’s pretty. Gained a new space. I was simply overjoyed. (In new outfits, standing before their artwork) We took photos for promotional material. I’m dressed as Gisele Bundchen. (Like the legendary model Gisele Bundchen?) Wow. Boss Kim. – Even their photos are different. / – A true boss. (A record of this special day) (In front of my artwork) (With Boss Kim, the building owner) It feels like it was all for her. Aren’t your eyes looking too fierce? It looks like the film “Nameless Gangster.” The boss saying, “I won.” “I won.” I wasn’t aiming for that look, but it grew dark. It looks awesome against that backdrop. Great work. (Great work) Finally, we’re done. – We’re all done. / – Well done. – Great work. / – Great job. Let’s go eat. (You worked hard, so let’s go eat) I’d like to go see it. Yes, please visit. Next time, we’ll hold a flea market in that open space. We’ll hold a DJ party. We’ll try different projects on the weekends. – Weekends? / – We have to earn $50,000. – Right. To recover costs. / – Yes. Guys, let’s go eat. You worked so hard. – Great work. / – Well done. I come here really often. Their concept is a full meal prepared for a son on his army vacation. A meal brimming with love. (Braised beef) – Looks delicious. / – Looks tasty. (Salted pollack roe and assorted seafood) Salted pollack roe. (Meal for employees who worked 12 hours in the cold) – Like a home meal. / – Thank you for the meal. – Thank you for the meal. / – Start eating. – Bon appetit. / – It’s delicious. (Looks tasty) – The best food for Koreans. / – Yes. After working all day, food tastes heavenly. I’m eating nonstop but there are still more dishes to try. I only tried two so far. It takes an hour to taste each dish. What did you think of today’s work? I was worried, but it turned out well. Indeed. I didn’t realize your artwork would stand out so vividly. You can see it… The moment you enter the street. Seeing it, I thought, “That’ll do.” – It’s done. / – Well done. It’s my first time doing such large-scale work. Being free to paint a 3-story parking tower… Was a new experience. Sedong had the toughest job. (Sedong painted in the freezing weather) He had a tough job. (Fighting against the cold for 6 hours) (To create the perfect artwork) – How did he paint that? / – So pretty. It looks prettier each time I look. – Until the end… / – Really incredible. I’m not tired at all. (Oh, my) I have to renew my contract soon. Kim Sedong has to renew his contract soon. (You’ll renew our contracts, right?) No renewal if you don’t do more murals. You’ll make us do more? (Just kidding) Will we go to New York now? It’s on my mind. We can’t recreate Brooklyn here. (Let’s go to New York) Will you go to New York together? My next goal is to let those artists hold an exhibition in New York this year. Managing Director Seong’s face darkened. Her expression… We’ll go to Brooklyn to create more artwork. She is full of worries. Create what? “Create what?” Before the year ends, we’ll go together… – To New York. / – New York? (People excited by New York) We’ll do something like this again. (People frustrated by New York) – A calculator on her shoulder… / – Her face… I’m fine. I’m used to this. We’ll make 2020 the year we go global. We’ll start by taking over New York. Her eyes are aflame. You used your travel budget for this. You won’t have money for a business trip. You can go instead of me. – Me? / – Yes. I don’t have a travel budget. Someone else can go. Will things be alright without me? Let’s just eat. (Huge appetite, no appetite) We’ll carry this momentum, and plan another renewal. – We’ll go global. / – There’s more. – Always full of ideas. / – We’ll tour the world. – A world tour. / – I bet she’ll get indigestion. You’ll do all those things this year? It’s a goal. Nothing gets done without a goal. – She always focuses on tomorrow. / – Tomorrow. (Boss Kim’s new projects continue)

I can understand the way she thinks and it all still make sense. Beside, she think wayyy ahead of others, so i can't help but agree with her. She is my favorite on the show

at first i thought it would be chaotic because she hired 4 designers to design each wall so maybe it would feel they are not blending together very well but the result is aesthetic and funky vibes actually. Great boss with exotic ideas !

I think ceo Kim is the best ceo she has her ways of boosting her workers and express their talents and the thing that she is not hesitant to treat her workers in a best way is what that makes her different four of them are so talented and good looking too✨
The hosts should stop commenting on her as if they know everything

I can see why the bosses employees are so stressed lol. Even if she has good intentions, I’d be pretty mentally exhausted if my boss was that impulsive too.

They should be thankful for having CEO Kim as their boss. She wants to grow with her team but unfortunately her employees only thinks its an extra work. Poor CEO Kim, i feel bad for her 🙁
